Silas Cayetano: Meet Nellie Biles’ Father

Silas Cayetano

Silas Cayetano is the father of Nellie Biles. Nellie Biles was the grandmother of Olympics star Simone Biles until she adopted her as her daughter. Simone’s mother struggled with substance abuse and not providing for her and her siblings during her childhood, which made them in and out of foster care for about three years. Eventually, her grandmother took her and her sister in and changed their lives. Learn more about Silas Cayetano, his daughter Nellie, and Simone.

Silas Cayetano Bio

Silas Cayetano was born on 20 September 1925 to Eustaquia Satuye and Pascascio Cayetano. He had two brothers, Francis and Moses, and five sisters, Mary, Martial, Victoria, Sara, and Petrona. He began his career as a teacher, graduating from Mico Training College in 1948. He later became an official in Belize’s fishing and agricultural cooperates. Eventually, Cayetano became a senator.

He met and married Evarista Kay, a teacher and an owner of a grocery store, and was blessed with four children: Nellie, Jennifer, Silas Jr., and Courine Cayetano. All their children attended universities in America and graduated with their respective degrees.

Silas Cayetano Daughter

Nellie Cayetano Biles is a retired Belizean nurse. She was born on 18 February 1950. She met Ron when she was in college in San Antonio. She has been the second wife of Ron Biles since they married in 1977. Since his first marriage, Ron has been the father of Simone’s biological mother, Shanon.

Shanon struggled with addiction to alcohol and drugs; she lost custody of her four children. Simone and her siblings were then placed in foster care. They faced an uncertain future and the risk of being scattered by adoption. That is when Ron Biles and his wife Nellie Cayetano stepped in and adopted Simone, then 6, and her sister Adria, then 4. Ron was the girls’ maternal grandfather. After adoption, Ron and Nellie stopped being their grandparents; now, they are their mom and dad. Nellie and Ron have four children: Simone, Adria, Ron Biles Jr., and Adam Biles.

Simone’s other siblings were adopted by their aunt, Ron’s sister.
