She was also employed by the Virginia House of Delegates and Governor Mark R. Ryan’s office in the 1990s. In 1992, she was appointed by Governor George Allen to serve as deputy chief of staff for legislative affairs.

After Allen’s election in 1994, she served as his aide-de-camp and executive assistant. In 1998, she helped Allen win his bid for a second term. After Allen’s victory, she was named outreach director for the Governor’s Council on Women and Girls. In 2000, she was appointed by Allen to serve as deputy chief of staff and legislative liaison for his reelection campaign. After Allen’s election, she was appointed by Governor Mark Warner to serve as his chief of staff in 2001. In 2004, she was named special assistant for public affairs at the Virginia Department of General Services (DGS), where she served until 2007.
