Junetta Wilcoxson was born on June 10, 1933, in Magnolia, LaRue County, Kentucky, USA. Junetta was the only child born to Walton and Cora Wilcoxson, and her parents’ affection for her surpassed everything. Junetta’s Early Education

Besides Junetta Wilcoxson being an attractive young lady with a bright dimpled smile, she was brilliant in class. June went to school in the Hardin County School System and received her high school diploma. She was compassionate about becoming a beautician and decided to set her course towards becoming licensed.

Junetta’s Early Life

While June was planning on becoming a licensed beautician and doing what she loved, she met a sailor, Carl Brashear. The two fall in love, and soon they were to marry and start their family. June married Carl in 1952, and they began their life together.

Junetta Wilcoxson’s Children

Junetta was blessed with four children during her marriage to Carl Brashear, including June showed her dedication as a wife and mother and took pride in raising her family. Moreover, she balanced being a mother and wife with being employed and engaging herself in the community.

Junetta was happy to be employed at the Naval Exchange cafeteria. The cafeteria was located at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia ad she served as a paper route supervisor for the Virginian Pilot newspaper.

Junetta Wilcoxson’s Husband

Junetta Wilcoxson was married to Carl Brashear between 1952- 1978. Carl was born in January 1931 and was a recognized United States Navy sailor. Despite Carl having his leg amputated during his career, he was a master in diving, which helped him rise to the position in 1970.

Junetta’s ex-husband was born in Kentucky and was the sixth child in a family of sixteen children. Carl’s family relocated to Sonora, Kentucky, in 1935, and Carl Brashear started his schooling in 1937 in Sonora Grade School. Carl graduated in 1946 and enlisted in the United States Navy in February 1948.

In 1954, Carl Brashear became the first African-American to attend and graduate from the Diving & Salvage School as one of the United States Navy Divers. It was not an easy job for Brashear while he was training due to hostility and racism, but he got the encouragement to finish from one of his mates.

Car Brashear made his name because of his career, but unfortunately, his love life did not work out well for him. He was married three times and ended up divorcing all the time. Brashear was first married to Junetta Wilcoxson from 1952 to 1978. The couple divorced, and Brashear married Hattie Elam between 1980 and 1983. Junetta’s ex-husband was also married to his third wife Jeanette Brundage, from 1987 to 1987. During all the marriages, Brashear had four children from his first wife.

Carl Brashear died in July 2006 due to respiratory and heart failure. He died in the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Junetta Wilcoxson died in May 2015 at the age of 81. She died in Portsmouth, Portsmouth City, Virginia, USA.
