In the vacation rental business, it’s not unreasonable to presume that features seen in the majority of listings in your neighborhood are popular with visitors. We examined the top five most popular amenities in each US state and Canadian province. With one or two exceptions, each market’s top five list had at least three of these advantages.
The Most Popular Vacation Rental Amenities in the US and Canada
Kitchen
A kitchen is the most frequent feature in Alabama, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, and South Carolina. It is also in every state’s top five list of amenities. A well equipped kitchen is an excellent feature in any short-term rental apartment like apartments near Seattle. It gives visitors greater independence and the option to cook a meal if they so choose. This is particularly important for individuals traveling with children.
Kitchens are the third most prevalent amenity in Canada, after only smoke alarms and basic supplies.
Smoke Detector
We’re not claiming that travelers are specifically looking for listings with smoke alarms, but they are quite frequent. Smoke alarms are among the top five amenities in every Canadian province and 51 of the 52 US states, with Alaska the only exception.
Airbnb will now alert guests if the house they rent on the marketplace does not have a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm as of 2018. While most visitors will not give much thought to whether their freshly booked home has smoke alarms, they may reconsider if Airbnb sends them a warning. Whether or whether you have a smoke alarm, you should consider purchasing vacation rental property insurance to protect yourself.
WiFi
It’s no wonder that one of the most prevalent features is WiFi. We cannot expect visitors to go without WiFi in this day and age. Furthermore, if you want a nice review, make sure the WiFi is lightning fast! WiFi is not the most prevalent amenity in any one US state or Canadian province, according to our research. This does not, however, imply that it is not anticipated by visitors.
Guests may not look for WiFi, but even if it isn’t stated, they will expect it to be available.
Essentials
Essentials, or essential items, is a rather ambiguous amenity to mention, and it implies various things to different individuals, but the general implication is that hosts leave a few necessary objects. Essentials may range from toiletries like wipes and toothpaste to cooking products like tea and coffee, depending on your definition.

The Hair Dryer
Hair dryers are obviously a significant item in the North American Airbnb rental market, which surprised us. Hair dryers are among the top five vacation rental features in 15 states and eight Canadian provinces.
Few tourists who really need a hair dryer would forget to bring one with them, but if they do, it’s a kind gesture. Make cautious not to spend too much money since untethered devices have a high risk of going lost. It’s all about balance with short-term rentals, and although pricey vacation rental features are lovely, you must consider the expense of replacing them if they go missing.
